Fujara playing workshop

- for beginners -

Workshop 6 days: suited for small groups between 3 – 5 persons in class.
Price: EUR 52 day/person
( accommodation inclusive - no boarding )

You will learn basics of Fujara playing technique and 4 famous Fujara folk tunes which will give you a perfect start to develop your Fujara playing technique in the future.

Every workshop participant will be provided with fine quality Fujara flute to practice. If you own your own Fujara, bring it with you too.

Accomodation :

Fujara workshop will take place in our guest house in Zavadka nad Hronom, a small village enclosed in a picturesque Hron river basin between the "Low Tatra" Mountains on the north and "Muran Plateu" on the south.

In the surrounding region are great opportunities for summer trips into bewithching nature and winter tourism with downhill or cross-country skiing (for begginers as well as advanced); road, mountain biking through the countryside, as well as cave exploring.
Next to our boarding house you can find a lovely pond perfect for fishing and swimming in the heat of the summer (or iceskating in the freezing winter :)

What is included within the price?

  5. Notations with fingerings + audio CD with workshop songs for practicing at home.

How to get to "Zavadka nad Hronom" village?

With the minimum group of 3 people we can arrange to pick you up from Budapest, Vienna, or Bratislava airport the time you specify and drive you directly to Zavadka nad Hronom - aditional charge of EUR 150.

Fujara playing workshop, basic - Schedule:

Arrival (day 0)

Depending the time of your arrival (and departure), we will charge you apropriate fee or accomodation only ...

Day 1

  • 9:00 - 10:00 Breakfast. You will need a good sleep before demanding day :)
  • 10:00 - 12:30 Tuition. Learning the basics - intro to breathing technique, learning to hold the fujara comfortably.
  • 12:30 - 15:00 Lunch. Small wallk to know the willage. It will help us to release the fingers and all the "tight muscles" as well as to teach us where the foodstores, restaurant, swimming pool, church, etc are.
  • 15:00 - 19:00 Tuition. We will try to "fine tune" the right fujara holding while playing ascending-descending series of fujara harmonics/overtones which share the closed fingering (all 3 holes closed). Also trying for the first time some scatter and whoosh - typical fujara ornaments.
    (It is VERY important that you learn to hold the fujara right from the start so that your muscles won't be aching and preventing you from learning in good and relaxed mood)
  • 19:00 ~ Dinner. Free Programm.

Day 2

  • 8:00 - 9:00 Breakfast.
  • 9:00 - 12:00 Tuition. Melodic embelishments - the scatter and woosh while instilling the ascending series of Fujara harmonics. Learning the fingering of the lower fujara octave g(G3) - g¹(G4).
  • 12:00 - 13:00 Lunch.
  • 13:00 - 16:00 Optional trip : Swimming in the swimming pool with sauna. Relax is important !
  • 16:00 - 19:30 Tuition. Instilling the fingering of the lower fujara octave. Learning the first part of our FIRST FUJARA SONG - Idem, idem (I go, I go) !
  • 19:30 ~ Dinner. Free program.

Day 3

  • 8:00 - 9:00 Breakfast.
  • 9:00 - 12:00 Tuition. Sounding the Mixolydian scale from D to D which comprises the central region of the notes available on the fujara. Perfecting the first part of "Idem, idem", now also with melodic embelishments.
  • 12:00 - 12:30 Quick Lunch.
  • 12:30 - 15:30 Optional trip : Visiting the Dobsina Ice Cave or seeing nice Slovak town Banska Bystrica mixing with the local people (this would surely take longer ...
  • 15:30 - 19:30 Tuition. Sounding all the notes available using all fingerings! Learning the whole song "Idem, idem" /I go, I go/.
  • 19:30 ~ Dinner. Free program.

Day 4

Compulsory WHOLE DAY TRIP 8:30 - 18:00. Depending on the weather we will choose any of the following activity:

18:00 - 19:30 - Dinner. Free program.

Day 5

  • 9:00 - 10:00 Breakfast. We will need a good sleep after demanding day :)
  • 10:00 - 13:00 Tuition. Repeating of all what we have learned sounding all the notes available using all fingerings! Starting with the new song - "Pust ma baca" /Let me go, shepherd"
  • 13:00 - 14:00 Lunch.
  • 14:00 - 19:00 Tuition. Perfecting our second song "Pust ma baca" with melodic embelishments.
  • 19:00 ~ Dinner. Free program.

Day 6

  • 8:30 - 9:30 Breakfast.
  • 9:30 - 12:30 Tuition. Learning the new song - "Svietila zornicka" /Little star shines/.
  • 12:30 - 13:30 Lunch.
  • 13:30 - 17:00 Tuition. Perfecting our third song "Svietila Zornicka" with melodic embelishments.
  • 17:00 - 19:00 Time to choose the "right" fujara and do the "accountings".
  • 19:00 ~ Dinner. Free program.
    Packing:
    We will prepare everything for departure. When needed, preparing the chosen fujara flutes for transportation - it is very important to pack them safely.

Departure (Day 7)

Depending upon the time of your departure we can continue with our fujara lessons learning one more song - "Hudu, ze mi hudu".

Successful completion of the workshop will give you perfect start to develop your playing further in the future. You will learn to play 3 or 4 famous fujara folk tunes and will be able to pick up any other fujara song quickly.

Optional trips or longer staying to suit your needs are welcome too.

Total workshop price including the accomodation for the Arrival day too is EUR 360.
